At Kheya Trails, we believe that travelling is about more than visiting places. It is about understanding the lives, cultures, and stories that make each place unique.
We are three individuals with different backgrounds, experiences, and ways of seeing the world. Together, we founded Kheya Trails to help people discover India beyond its familiar tourist spots—through its landscapes, communities, cultures, and untold stories.
Welcome to a different way of exploring.
I Travel to Understand the World Through Other People's Eyes. I have always loved travelling—not simply for the places I could visit, but for the people I could meet and the worlds I could begin to understand through them. Since 2017, my research has taken me across the Sundarbans, Mousuni Island, Bankura, Birbhum, Purulia, and other lesser-known destinations. My academic work has focused on ethnomedicinal practices in the Sundarbans and among Santal communities in Bankura. These journeys gave me opportunities to spend time with indigenous communities, learn about their traditional knowledge, and understand everyday life from their own perspectives. I realised that discovering a place means much more than knowing its geography or seeing its landscapes. It also means listening to people, understanding their ways of life, and recognising the knowledge and cultural practices that shape their relationship with the world. Over the past eight years, these experiences have encouraged me to step beyond the familiar and see the world differently. They have also made me want to share what I have learned with others. India is extraordinarily diverse. Every region holds its own cultural expressions, social realities, traditional knowledge, and ways of understanding life. Yet much of this richness remains outside the usual travel experience. With Kheya Trails, I want to create opportunities for travellers to explore this diversity more thoughtfully. For us, travel is not merely a commercial service. It is an opportunity to encounter unfamiliar perspectives, question our assumptions, and develop a deeper understanding of the society we live in. I hope that our journeys will do more than satisfy a traveller's wanderlust. I hope they will help people see familiar ideas in new ways and discover the many human stories that make India what it is.
My story with the Sundarbans began in 2017, when I first visited the region as part of a research project from Poland. As an Anthropology research scholar, I was there to work, learn, and understand a place I had known mostly through stories. Before my first visit, I was afraid. Growing up, I had heard frightening stories about the Sundarbans in conversations and newspapers. The thought of entering a landscape known for its tigers, crocodiles, and unpredictable rivers kept me awake for several nights. I would imagine tigers chasing me or crocodiles pulling me away from a boat. But when I finally arrived, something unexpected happened. My fear began to fade. After long days working in schools across different villages, I would return to camp, freshen up, and sit by the river in the evening. In those quiet moments, the Sundarbans no longer felt frightening. Instead, I found myself surrounded by a sense of peace I had never known before. Over the next seven years, the Sundarbans became much more than a place of research. It became a place I learned to understand through its people, their lives, and their relationship with nature. During this time, I also travelled through the region with different tour operators. I often felt that the experiences offered to visitors showed only a small part of what the Sundarbans truly is. Beyond the organised tourist spots and familiar river routes, there were the local cultures, the warmth of the people, the distinct stories of individual islands, and the everyday realities of living in a landscape where human life and nature are constantly in negotiation. I began to dream of a different kind of travel experience—one that would help people discover these less-seen dimensions of the Sundarbans and understand the region through the perspectives of the people who call it home. That dream became one of the reasons behind Kheya Trails. We began our journey in the Sundarbans, hoping to introduce travellers to a side of the region they might otherwise never encounter. And I hope that, one day, we will bring this same approach to destinations across India. Because sometimes, the most meaningful part of a place is the part we were never told to look for.
I am an entrepreneur and vlogger who enjoys exploring new places and sharing everyday experiences with people through social media. Alongside running my own business, I create daily-life vlogs that allow me to connect with people and share moments from my experiences. Travelling has always been something I love, and through my videos, I try to introduce my audience to new destinations, lesser-known cultures, and experiences they may not have encountered before. For me, discovering a new place becomes even more meaningful when I can share that discovery with others. A journey can introduce us to a different landscape, a new way of life, or a story that changes how we see something familiar. Through vlogging, I want to make these experiences accessible to more people and encourage them to look beyond the places and perspectives they already know. That is one of the reasons I became part of Kheya Trails. I see Kheya Trails as an opportunity to bring my love for travel and storytelling together with a more meaningful way of exploring destinations. I want our guests to experience something new during every journey, while also sharing these discoveries with a wider audience through my content. I believe that every destination has something worth discovering, and every journey can leave us with something worth sharing. Through Kheya Trails, I hope to help more people experience the beauty, diversity, and unexpected stories that make travelling so special.
Our paths into travel have been different.
One of us came to understand a landscape through years of research and a deep connection with the Sundarbans. Another found meaning in exploring communities, traditional knowledge, and the many ways people experience life. The third discovered the joy of connecting people with new places through storytelling and vlogging.
What brings us together is a shared belief: there is always more to a destination than what a conventional visit can reveal.
We believe the best journeys create opportunities to look closer, listen more carefully, and understand the world beyond our own experiences.
This belief is at the heart of Kheya Trails.
We want to create journeys that allow travellers to experience destinations beyond their familiar images.
That means paying attention to local cultures, listening to the stories of communities, appreciating traditional knowledge, and exploring the everyday realities that give a place its character.
Our approach grows from our own experiences of research, travel, and storytelling. We want to bring these perspectives into the journeys we design, while respecting the people, cultures, and places that make each experience possible.
Every destination has its own story. We want to help you discover it.
Perhaps you will find yourself sitting beside a river in the Sundarbans, listening to stories that reveal a different side of the landscape. Perhaps you will discover the cultural richness of a community you knew little about. Or perhaps you will return from a journey with a new perspective on a place you thought you already understood.
Whatever the destination, we hope you return with more than photographs.
We hope you return with experiences, connections, and stories that stay with you long after the journey ends.
Come for the journey. Stay for the stories.
